You can find pure nature in the summer on marked bicycle- and footpaths - around Königstein there are over 120 km -, in the winter on marked cross-country skiing tracks. But it’s not the length that does it but the great variety of landscapes and the interesting destinations. In the middle of the nature reserve “Veldensteiner forest” you’ll find a favourable climate with hot summers and winters deeply snow-covered.
The jurassic lime is responsible for the formation of the climbing rocks and the many caves - for athletic and fearless guests: the "Hirschbacher cave-footpath" with 30 caves over a distance of 20 km.
Follow the "Bier- und Burgenstrasse" (Beer and Castle Road) for a while, or the "Bavarian Iron Road". Theme-tours for cyclists like "the medieval road" or "tour de Vils" along the river Vils lead along hillsides dotted with juniper bushes that look almost Tuscan.
In the mixed woodlands of the Upper Palatinate jurassic, you’ll find rare orchids like the “Frauenschuh” (lady’ slipper), mushrooms and berries.
